Our Mission

LIVE & LEARN EDUCATION recognizes the value of ongoing whole life adult education and provides classes that will help Adult Individuals with Developmental Disabilities to live as independently as they are able in their own living environment and support them in becoming contributing members to their community.

Our Purpose

It does not discriminate based on race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of program activities.

LIVE & LEARN partners with Middlesex Community College to provide a non-credit learning opportunity in the Greater Lowell area. Classes are held for 46 weeks each Wednesday evening from 6pm to 7:30pm at the college and are taught by Instructors and guest speakers.

The premise of the class is participatory focused – the Individuals who attend will determine what topics are of interest to them – what they believe they want and need to learn-as opposed to what the “professionals” tell them is important. Once a year a “brainstorming session” is held to review the past year of topics and make recommendations for future subjects.

An Advisory Committee consisting of students will take the reviews and evaluate whether specific topics are worth learning again; in addition, they review and consider the topic suggestions for the upcoming year. The Advisory Committee will present the student membership with the final recommendations for their approval. In addition, they will conduct a satisfaction survey in March, 2013.

It is imperative to utilize the resources that exist within the community that provides an educational value to both the students participating and their guest presenters. Our local Fire Department, Police Department, City, and State government officials are willing to present to the group topics of interest – the Individuals are ready to learn and to shed their needy states as “burdens” and learn the channels to become active and involved members of their community.

In addition to the educational component, LIVE & LEARN EDUCAION provides a valuable social outlet to the Individuals- Individuals will meet others from different towns, providers, work and expand their friendships beyond the class.
